September
Our room is all set there is lots to see and do! Before we start to play we need to have calendar time, chart the weather, and sing some preschool songs! September is an exciting month! We start the year off by talking about how special we are and painting a mural for all of our friends to enjoy. We chart our birthdays and decorate our cakes. God made each one of us special and loves us very much. We talk about the circle and make our faces to enjoy as a tasty snack! We enjoy catching bugs in our bug jars and talking about ladybugs, crickets, ants, grasshoppers, bees, and flies. On the day we talked about flies, we read the book, There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly. We made the old woman and retold the story for craft. Our sensory table is filled with dirt and we hunt for creepy crawlies!
October
October is a month about celebrating the season of fall. We talk about apples and see what shape is in the inside when we print them. We make delicious apple pies for snack and make our family trees. Our first field trip of the year is to Zittel’s Market. We learn about vegetables and have fun in a hay maze. We even get to feed a calf and a goat! To continue with our fall fun we read the book The Shy Scarecrow and make scarecrow masks, color a mural, and make crows out of triangles. Farmer and Mrs. Farmer Brown come and visit and we go on a hayride around the parking lot and we love to sing, “Old Farmer Brown…” We end the month practicing our cutting skills and we pattern our happy and sad face pumpkins!
December
December is a busy month. We are preparing for our Nativity play and busy making gifts for our mommies and daddies. We are busy elves in Santa’s Toy Workshop! We love to have our dads help us build too! Hammering nails into stryofoam is great fun too! Caroling at the United Church Manner is so much fun for the boys and girls and also the grandpas and grandmas that live there. We love to put together puzzles or listen to a book on tape.
January
Our fall mural turns into a snowy mural and we love to see ourselves play in the snow! We have fun mixing primary colors while reading the book, Color Mice. Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom! We love making our Chicka trees and realizing how many letters we can get to go up our trees! The Zoo Trunk visits us and it is always exciting to see what kind of animal they will bring each year. We talk about mammals, reptiles, and birds and learn how God made each group special. Each year, January Brings the Snow as it says in the book and we have fun playing roll a snowman and going outside to sled!
February
We have lots of fun mailing letters in our very own Post Office. It is fun to visit the Post Office and see how our mail gets to our house each day. We learn about our addresses, phone numbers and towns too. Graphing candy hearts helps us with our colors and writing numbers. How tall will our Amaryllis grow? We talk about measurement and see how the sunlight, water, and warmth all helps our flower grow nice and tall. Bowling is super fun! How many pins did you get?
March
It’s time to blast off into space. First we need to paint our rocket ship. Make the moon and put an astronaut on the moon. All of this work makes us hungry. Our rocket ship snack is yummy! We have fun seeing how many daddy, mommy, and baby bears it takes to balance the scale. We have fun building with our gears and seeing how they fit together to make an amusement park.
April
It is Pizza Week! A stop at our Pizza Shop and you will see that we have the best pizza in town. We have fun making funny faces with our pizza, talking about our emotions, and graphing what toppings are the best! We love to play in the cars and blocks center, dress up in housekeeping, and create with playdough! It is time to stretch our muscles and have fun doing it! Gym days are the best.
May
God made animals of all kinds and Touch Tank came to preschool so we can explore the animals that live under the sea. We are looking forward to summer and it would not be summer without going to the beach. Why go to the beach when the beach can come to preschool. Swimming suits, sunglasses, towels, and flip-flops are a must for Beach Day! Mrs. Rizzo comes to visit each year and brings Louise, her turtle. We read one of Mrs. Stark’s favorite books, I Can’t Get My Turtle to Move, and then see if we can get Louise to move. What wonderful illustrators we have. We enjoy drawing the pictures as Mrs. Draear reads Harold and the Purple Crayon.
